Conference Announcement
UK Air Transport Policy in the Context of Europe
The Institution of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street, London
Thursday 1 June 2000
Aviation makes a major contribution to the UK economy through its impact on
the performance of other industries as a facilitator of their growth. It
also makes a major contribution to the UK in its own right. During 1999 the
DETR has conducted a number of regional and central studies to better
understand the role of aviation. The Regional Air Services Co-ordination
Study is currently under way and is expected to be an important part in the
development of an Air Transport Policy for the UK.
The aims of the conference are to:
* Bring together views and policies of the Government, industry and
users on aviation policy for the UK.
* Consolidate the immense amount of work that has been carried out in
the past two years.
* Identify the importance of aviation in the UK and the need for
coherent policies that are effective in the UK and Europe.
* Hear first hand from those involved in creating policy, the
background and objectives.
