I agree that there is a need for a professional list that examines
substantive transport issues without continuously beating the drum of a
specific political agenda, getting bogged down in trivia (e.g. paint
schemes), or engaging in "flame wars." But UTSG is not that list.
If someone is willing to moderate a discussion list that would courteously
debate transport issues/policy, a list can be set up no cost in about 10
minutes using http://www.egroups.com or http://www.topica.com or a similar
service. This would allow UTSG to continue to provide its excellent
signal-to-noise ratio for announcements and information requests, whilst
providing a forum for those who wish to exercise their grey cells. As with
any debate, an even-handed yet disciplined moderator will be essential.
