THINK-UP Workshop 5 "Setting the Policy Context"
Vienna, 4 - 5 December 2000
THINK-UP is a thematic network supported under the European Union Fifth
Framework Thematic Programme, Competitive and Sustainable Growth, which is
focusing on transport demand forecasting and scenario building. It compares
the methodologies used, the underlying hypotheses and the results obtained.
THINK-UP draws together transport experts from many different sectors:
policy makers, service providers, users, and researchers. Through small
workshops and larger seminars the themes of the project are discussed and
taken forward. The project considers in particular, the subjects of
passenger and freight transport markets, the institutional context and
policy variables, and issues concerning prediction tools and trend
estimation. Further details are available at the THINK-UP web-site:

This notice invites papers as contributions to the fifth of the twelve
THINK-UP workshops. The fifth workshop is concerned with providing an
overview of policy developments at European, national and urban/regional
level which could be thought to potentially influence mobility and which, in
turn, ought to be taken into account in mobility prediction.
The workshop will be held at the ICCR offices in Vienna. Authors of accepted
papers will join a group of 15 leading researchers and practitioners for the
workshop, and will have their travel expenses and subsistence paid.
Contributions are now invited that address one or more of the themes below
from the perspective of influencing the demand for transport and the choice
of mode during the next two decades in Europe.
a. network organisation (considering intermodality and
interoperability);
b. traffic system management options;
c. regulatory (eg. environmental or technical) standards;
d. economic measures (eg. road pricing and fiscal measures like fuel
taxes);
e. deregulation of transport markets.
Authors are invited to submit a 2-page abstract by Friday 6th October to:
