He is Antoine-Louis-Francois Mertrud (d. 1802). I didn't have a birth date
for him. Any of the histories of the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle
would mention him. In particular there's a centennial history in 1893
that lists all the professors since 1793.
Cuvier took over Mertrud's teaching when he arrived in Paris and obtained
his chair when he died.
