Dear All,
Now that the list in place, we can start discussions and circulate
information! Let me begin...
Most of the talks from the community meeting on March 15 are available on
... http://hepwww.rl.ac.uk/UKHEPGRID/TownMeeting-15Mar00/agenda.htm
Robin Middleton is about to put the database showing the names on the
'ukhepgrid' list, and their interests on the web too. As Robin indicated,
please let us know if further names should be added.
Please find some attached notes from the John Taylor meeting on Monday 27th
... <<JTmtg27Mar2000report.doc>> These are rather sketchy, but give you
an idea of the areas covered in the meeting. Andy is planning a brief
summary of the meeting, and I suggest he circulates this to the list.
The Steering Committee has had considerable e-mail activity, and one 'phone
meeting. This provided useful input for Andy's preparation for the 27
March meeting.
There have been significant developments in the EU grid bid. The UK is now
leading two of the Work Packages (we have Data Management as well now), and
playing important roles in two others. There is a full day meeting tomorrow
with an intention to fully define the WPs. Robin Middleton and John
Gordon are going to CERN for the meeting, a number of us will be on the
other end of 'phone lines! I suggest the following:-
* Robin and John send a summary of tomorrow's meeting to this list as
soon as possible.
* Members of the list then express their interest in working in the
various WP areas (which will be better defined by then).
* The Steering Committee takes this as input and looks to see how to
pull this together. Andy is planning a meeting next Monday so statements of
interest on Friday would be helpful (although it will take more than a few
days to reach conclusions).
* The conclusions of who is prepared to work in various WP areas
should then be made available on the web.
Comments and suggestions on this please!
A difficult area is how we should plan to ensure there is sufficient
experimental representation in our UK grid work. All our activities are
with the single purpose of maximising our physics return, and we must keep
this at the centre of our thoughts. I have heard, for example, that LHCb
has submitted a plan as part of the 'HEP Applications' WP. How does the UK
fit into this? We need to make sure that experiments are at the core of all
grid activity. What is the best way to achieve this?!
All the best,
> Paul
