I'm assisting a colleague of mine with a reference/research question
regarding Violette Morris. If anyone has done research on this or has
information, I'm sure she would greatly appreciate it. Please respond to
me and I'll forward any replies to my colleague.
Original query:
A graduate student in the History dept. here at Iowa is trying to track
down a song about Violette Morris, that dates (according to the
student) from the 1920s. The student ran across the lyrics in a trial
transcript
published in 1930. Apparently, Mme. Morris was a "French athlete and
she
was infamous for (1) cross-dressing and (2) claiming to have had a
voluntary double mastectomy," which the song addresses. We're trying to
track down the composer and lyricist, and any other information
around. HELP! I've exhausted everything I can think of, which means
of
course, I've overlooked something painfully obvious.
The first few lines of the song, sans accents, are:
"Est-il, Madame, veritable,
Que vous songiez a l'abandon
Du tendre et magnifique don
D'une poitrine confortable."
