                        Sexual Fantasy Study

I am a Ph.D. student at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human
Sexuality and am studying the sexual fantasies of female to male
transsexuals (ftm). The present study focuses on the sexual fantasies of
female to male transsexuals before hormones and eight weeks after the
commencement of hormone therapy. The study has three parts. Participants
for all three groups may self identify in any way they wish, however they
must all be born female and taking or intending to take testosterone. The
term ftm is used for simplification.

Part one is a computer on-line survey of the subjective effects of
testosterone on ftms; participants will also complete the Wilson Sex Fantasy
Questionnaire. Participants for this component will be solicited from news
groups focused on issues of interest to female to male transsexuals and
others working with gender variant people.

Part two will require volunteers to record the daily frequency of their
sexual fantasies for one week prior to hormone therapy and again for one
week eight weeks after starting hormones. They will also be asked to report
the content of three of their fantasies before hormones and then again eight
weeks after they start hormones. In addition they will complete the Wilson
Sex Fantasy Questionnaire before and after commencement of hormones.

Volunteers for this component will have been diagnosed with Gender Identity
Disorder according to the criteria of the DSM IV. Volunteers will be a
minimum of eighteen years old. They should not currently be on hormones but
should expect to be commencing hormone therapy in the next six months. The
volunteers should be able to read and write English at a high school level.

Part three of the study will involve interviewing ftm's who have been on
hormone therapy for a minimum of one year. The interviews will be open
ended but will include questions regarding their original expectations of
hormone treatment, their experience of the reality of that treatment
including their subjective opinion of any changes in their sexual fantasies.
Interviews will be conducted via telephone or in person at the convenience
of the participant.

Volunteers for any aspect of the study may contact me directly via post,
phone or email. My contact information is below.
