are we talking about mtf or ftm's. if i remember the original post was about
both.
the reality is that many ftm's have lived in the lesbian community before
transitioning in the U.S. at least. it is also true the the term
"transitioning" or "having surgery" might take on different meanings. most
ftm's i know (and i know quite a bit) have not had bottom surgery and have no
interest in having it given the current state of the surgeries.
many of them are involved with women who are still lesbian identified, and
some (this varies) still id as lesbian or more commonly "queer" i.e. NOT
heterosexual.
to complicate matters more some butch lesbians are using T to masculinize or
have had chest surgery, but do not id as "trans"...
btw, i do know some mtf's who have lived as gay men, many of who are still
with their partners post-transition. i would say that in all the cases i know
tho' they were not active IN the gay male world tho' living as gay men.
since sexual identity is on completely different continuum than gender
identity it makes sense that some of the trans community IS part of the gay
community, and some of the gay community IS trans....
the interesting part tho', of course, is "before or after" meaning some
couples "look" gay before transition but are "really" str8, and some couples
"look" het before transition but are "really "gay"....
