I note what you say about the use of the term "gender identity disorder".
GIRES accepts that there may be under-reporting in the figures I quoted.
However, it is very important for policy makers to know how many people are
receiving medical treatment. It is also, as I said, important that we repeat
the survey to ascertain how the picture is changing over time.
Please note, that going to a general practitioner in the UK is common. This
is a free service provided by the government. It is certainly not restricted
to upper income groups.
