Scope:
The "2001: Geography, a Spatial Odyssey'
Conference intends to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners
to discuss and disseminate recent advances in all fields of the
discipline.
There will be a range of sessions on the themes of:
* Journeys and movement
* Spaces and Places
* Environmental Change
* New Frontiers in Geographical Teaching in Schools
* The Future
... as well as sessions on other areas of interest to geography, and
plenary sessions on key topics of overlapping interest.
Local Field Trips:
Held on Wednesday Afternoon, 31 January.
* Dunedin City Highlights
* Otago Peninsula
* Historical East Otago and Macraes Gold Mine
* Tussock Country
* Coastal North Otago
Post-Conference Fieldtrip:
A journey from Dunedin to Christchurch International Airport through the
inland South Island, over the weekend of Friday 2nd February to Sunday
4th February. Themes will relate to local geographical highlights in
inland Otago and Canterbury (mountains, lakes, mining, dams, viticulture
and wine tasting, tourism, and ozone measurements). Early expressions
of interest would be appreciated.
Conference Dinner and Social Functions:
The Conference Dinner will be held on the evening of Thursday 1st
February, at historic Lanarch Castle. A Formal Icebreaker is offered on
the evening of Monday 29th January. For those wanting to get into the
swing of things early, an informal social will be held on Sunday
evening, 28th January
TOURISM SESSIONS
As part of the hosting of the Conference the Centre for Tourism
at the University of Otago is assisting in the coordination of
papers in the tourism and recreation area. Prospective authors are
invited to submit a brief (50 word)) abstract of
their paper which should contain the title, name(s) of author(s),
affiliations(s), full mailing address, a fax number, and an email
address if possible to
