With this mailing I would like to attract your attention to the following
initiative:
The University of Bologna is running a training program in cultural tourism in
Phnom Penh (Cambodia).
This program is supported by the Royal University Phnom Penh, the University
of Technology Sydney and the Free University Amsterdam.
This training program has been rather successful, and during their last
meeting on Novermber 27, 1999 in Phnom Penh, the cooperating universities have
decided to continue the program into the new millennium.
In September 2000 we intend to start an 18 month graduate diploma course in
(cultural) tourism.
The cooperating universities will provide some of the required human resources
input. But this is not enough. To run the course successfully we need to more
expertise - expertise we try to recruit through the tourism networks.
As there is funding available for inner-Asian academic mobility, I would like
to invite ASIAN scholars in particular to join the graduate upgrading course
as lecturers!
Basically the required input will be to teach an intensive course during 2-3
weeks in Phnom Penh.
Your travel expenses and accommodation costs will be covered, and there will
be a small fee.
We are looking for lecturers for the following modules:
- Significance and impact of tourism (tourism in general and cultural tourism
in particular, with special attention for Asia);
- Tourism Planning and Development (with case studies from Asia)
- Business Skills for Tourism (investment services, travel agency,
transportation)
- Information Technology for Tourism
- Dimension and measurement of tourism: qualitative and quantitative methods
Asian scholars interested in this unique experience are warmly invited to
contact me for further information. Other colleagues in other parts of the
world who can
generate their own funding and would like to join the team for the experience
and/or motivation of helping the Cambodians are invited to contact me.
I have been involved in teaching in Cambodia myself, and I can assure you that
it is very pleasant to work with our Cambodian colleagues, and Phnom Penh is a
very relaxed city to spend your time. Not to mention the marvellous temple
complex of Angkor Wat within reach!
Looking forward to your reply, I remain,
with kind regards
Heidi Dahles
