Hi Nigel,
I have managed to get a halfway acknowledgement for the COBICE grant here at BAS, so have sent off the completed form. Have you managed to get the paperwork cleared?
Thank you for that message regarding the new tardigrade worker. It sounds as though Jan van Arkel is doing rather well. A pity he was unable to join the Symposium.
How's life with you? Have the University offered you a decent job yet? How about 'Assistant Research Professor' with Copenhagen University, heading the Fauna Europaea Office? It's on the Copenhagen University web-site. Have you had a look at the front end of the visitor's Fauna Europaea web-site? Someone had some fun, but ran out of time, as the front end is about all you get!
On a related but different subject. I had a call today from Antoine de Maximy (Director of the Discovery Channel "Inlandsis"). He was making inquiries about the possibility of a programme about a scientific expedition to Mont Blanc. Something about a series of programmes about major mountains on different continents. He wants to include a story about tardigrades, but slightly different from "Inlandsis". It seems Professor Alain Couté (Algologist) and Dr. Luc Moreau (Glaciologist) are also being approached. One of the questions he asked me was whether there were others with complimentary interests in tardigrades who might be interested? It is still 'on the drawing board' and very vague, with possible dates for late summer 2001, and about 15 days filming. Accommodation possibly marginally better than the tents on the ice. If it is the same as before, they will be paying transport and accommodation. Interested? I was also wondering about Roberto 'junior' as a third possibility, if the story line will run to three tardigrade workers.
What are you views?
Hope all's well with you.
Best wishes,
Sandra
