dear subcultural-styles
i am bob bennett. i lecture at coventry university in the subject area, communication
culture and media. my particular interest is dance and popular culture. i am module leader for
three modules in our subject area: the body, dance in everyday life and trans/gressions, the
latter a module on our m.a. course.
i have written, i like to think extensively, on dance and popular culture, but little of this
has found itself into print. i share some writing with rinella cere, and we have a .com domain
which in the coming year we are going to organise into a dance and everyday life resource.
there we will publish - if that is the word - a book we have been trying to get a hardcopy publisher
for for over five years (it has too much personal material in it, you see, for bona fide hardcopy
publication!). we will also use the site to make available over 1,000 dance memories linked with
class, race, age, gender, sexuality, disability self identifications, and more.
i tend to respond to entries from other members of subcultural-styles when you write
about issues linked to dance and dancing. i self-identify as gay and that is an important part of
my involvement in research as well as regional and national tradesunion equal opportunities
activities.
