Position Announcements (3)
I. FMRI Research Specialist (Research Associate)
II. Research Coordinator, Brain Imaging Laboratory
III. Project Coordinator, Traumatic Brain Injury Research

Brain Imaging Laboratory
Dartmouth Medical School
Lebanon, New Hampshire
USA

General Background

The multidisciplinary Brain Imaging Laboratory, Departments of Psychiatry
and Radiology at Dartmouth Medical School, is engaged in collaborative
clinical research using fMRI / MR morphometry in early Alzheimer disease,
mild traumatic brain injury, schizophrenia, PTSD, OCD, neurosurgical
patients with epilepsy and Parkinson disease, MS, cancer therapy, and other
conditions. The overarching theme of the research program is the neural
substrates of working, semantic and episodic memory dysfunction. In
addition to fMRI studies, ongoing structural MRI projects include
morphometric analyses of hippocampus, entorhinal cortex, amygdala, basal
ganglia and frontal subregions. New protocols include integration of fMRI
with MRS and diffusion tensor imaging.
(See http://synapse.hitchcock.org, presently under construction).

I. FMRI Research Specialist (Research Associate)

This opening is for a technical specialist to support a multidisciplinary
group of collaborating clinical investigators in all aspects of functional
and structural MRI experiments. Major responsibilities will include
assistance with task design and stimulus preparation, participant scanning,
data analysis, quality control and scan archiving and retrieval. Other
aspects of the position include helping to train students, fellows and
other research staff in imaging methods, and collaboration in preparation
of grant applications and manuscripts.

Requirements:
         MS/PhD in relevant field preferred.
Must have strong interest in and experience with design, execution and
analysis of fMRI experiments.
Knowledge of Matlab and SPM99 is essential; experience with AFNI
and other fMRI analysis approaches is desirable.
Must be familiar with multiplatform networked computer systems
including SGI/IRIX, Linux and Windows PC.
Must be familiar with and able to program and maintain stimulus
delivery systems (e.g., goggles, audio system, response recording devices).
Must have excellent organizational and communication skills and
ability to work independently.

Other desirable skills/experience:
Familiarity with GE LX2 Horizon MR scanning platform and epibold
protocol and reconstruction.
Programming experience with C, Tcl/Tk, AVW, data base software,
Lingo (Macromedia Director), or other stimulus delivery/response recording
packages.
Knowledge of neuroanatomy and experience with structural MRI analysis
programs such as BRAINS and Analyze AVW and voxel based morphometry.

II. Research Coordinator, Brain Imaging Laboratory

The Research Coordinator will support a multidisciplinary group of
collaborating investigators engaged in clinical research projects utilizing
structural and functional neuroimaging as well as neuropsychiatric and
neuropsychological assessment. Responsibilities include a central role in
coordination and organization of issues that cut across individual
projects. These include acquisition and scheduling of laboratory resources
and facilities, coordination of meetings across studies and investigators,
project and database management, preparation of human subjects protocols,
preliminary statistical analyses, and collaboration in preparation of
scientific manuscripts and grant applications. The coordinator will also
help to train students and other staff in use of laboratory computer
systems and research protocols.

Requirements:
Minimum of BA in relevant field; advanced degree preferable.
Strong interest in clinical research using brain imaging,
neuropsychological and psychiatric methods.
Must be highly motivated with outstanding organizational skills and ability
to work both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with PC software and hardware (familiarity with UNIX
would also be helpful).
Prior experience in related settings, performing similar responsibilities
is highly desirable, as is familiarity with cognitive and neurological
issues regarding human memory disorders.

III. Project Coordinator, Traumatic Brain Injury Research

This project coordinator will screen and recruit patients for a new grant
studying effects of medication on memory deficits after mild TBI using
repeat fMRI scans. The TBI Project Coordinator will administer
neuropsychological tests and rating scales, run patients through fMRI scan
protocols, and participate in all aspects of data analysis and report
preparation. For further information on this position contact the project
PI: Thomas McAllister, MD ( [log in to unmask] ).

Other Information and Application Procedures:
These full time positions are available July 2000; applications will be
