I am guessing, but it looks like you may be having some kind of memory
problems. Try quitting Matlab and starting it up again. Sometimes bits
of memory get used, but are not freed up again afterwards (especially if
some of my mex files crash or are interrupted).
SPM was generally tested with relatively small time-series. Some parts can
use much more memory, especially when large design matrices are used by the
stats part, when processing large images with the ImCalc button, when doing
the "adjustment" in time series realignment or when looking at results of large
analyses when you have defined lots of contrasts, etc...

| Hello all spm users, sorry to trouble you but I have just started to use
| spm99 (2 days) and have run into a few problems. I have been attempting to
| normalise a T1 brain volume purely as a learning experience, and the make
| sure it can be done (it should be possible as everyone else seems to be able
| to do it). I however, have not been able to get any further then displaying
| my image. When I attempt to normalise my images the system seems to fall
| over and I get numerous error messages.
|
| I am working with a 256 x 256 x 124 T1 image (voxel size 0.78 x 0.78 x 1.5),
| I can display the image, and reorient it, but when I attempt to normalise it
| to the T1 template, using the determine parameters step only, I get the
| following error messages
|
| > Unable to load mex file: /usr/local/spm99/spm_brainwarp.mexsol.
| > ld.so.1: /usr/local/matlab5/bin/sol2/matlab: fatal: /dev/zero: mmap failed:

| I'm probably doing some thing basic wrong. I have looked at the spm archive
| list and the spm web pages and Matthew Bretts pages, but I don't seem to be
| able to determine where I have gone wrong. Any idea's or help would be
| appreciated.
|
| I was also wondering if perhaps anyone has a small document that they may
| have created to give new spmers in their lab a start. If anyone knows of
| any spm users in the New Mexico area I could get in touch with as well that
| would also be most appreciated.
|
| I have also run into memory problems quiet a bit, any Ideas on how much
| memory one should have on their system as standard for spm? I did notice
| that spm was tested at 128 MB of RAM, with 200 MB of swap, is this all
| that's neccessary or would more help? and if so, how much is adequate?
|
| Thanks to anyone who reads this and may have some suggestions.
