The default is not to byte-swap. It is only when the field in the header
is read as 1543569408 that the program does the byte swapping. I guess
your .hdr files were created on a big-endian machine (such as a Sun), and
needed byte swapping when they were read on a little-endian one (e.g., a PC)
but not when read from a Sun.
