| I have a basic question about the way image intensity is treated
| during spatial normalization. Is the summed intensity across the image
| preserved? More concretely, if the volume of brain tissue has to be expanded
| to match the template, will the voxelwise intensities remain the same
| (leading to a net increase in summed intensity across the image) or
| will they be decreased to preserve summed intensity across the image?
The voxel intensities are preserved during spatial normalisation, so if
a region expands, then the summed intensity from that region will increase
in the spatially normalised images (as will summed activation signals).
This is an interesting question as it has implications for the stats parts of
multi-subject analyses.
