In fact both y and Y have been globally normalized (and filtered). The
only difference is that y includes the residuals. Both fitted and
adjusted data (Y and y) treat the null space of the contrast as
confounds and therefore are adjusted for these (i.e. 'modeled for the
selected contrast'). This allows flexible 'adjustment' or partitioning
of the data.
