I've only used RedHat but I assume that SuSe is set up similarly (since
both use XFree86). Depending upon the version of XFree86 that you are
running, you can probably use Xconfigurator or xf86config to configure
your video setup - there should be a page where you can choose the
resolution and color depth. This should create a section like the
following in /etc/X11/XF86Config:
Section "Screen"
Driver "accel"
Device "My Video Card"
Monitor "ViewSonic G790"
Subsection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "1600x1200"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
It is possible to tweak the XF86Config file by hand, but I would not
suggest it.
