Dear Sargo, and all,

Well done for working this out. I see that my earlier suggestion that it was
a matlab 5.3 problem was wrong (I was led astray by a matlab bug report at
the Mathworks support site). I was only accidentally solving the problem by
saving from the Sun system, and copying to the PC.
As you suggest, it looks like it was a bug in WinZip. I suggest for now that
people dearchive using EasyZip (free): http://www.bamsystems.com/easyzip/ , or
pkzip (shareware): http://www.pkware.com, or use the GNU tar utility that is
part of the Cygwin project (http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin) - I have just
put the binary and necessary DLL for this in my webspace:
http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/~matthew.brett/ftp/Win_spm99
Download tar.exe and cygwin1.dll into your path, and, from the Windows DOS
prompt, extract the spm99.tgz file with:
tar -zxf spm99.tgz
as for Unix.
For me, the .mat files at ftp://ftp.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/spm99b_updates/rend/
also work.
Cheers,
Matthew
