Dear Randy,

There is a new EPI template in SPM99 which IMO is substantially better for
day-to-day normalisation than the T2 template. The 1mm version of the SPM99
T1 template available from the Cambridge group is also useful. You'll have
seen the recent discussion on the list of other templates for older patient
populations etc.
None of these represent 'canonical Talairach space' and I suspect there is
no simple solution to this as no MRI of the Talairach brain exists. It is
therefore not obvious how to determine the appropriate nonlinear
transformation between an MRI in MNI space and a drawing of a brain in
Talairach space. There is a extended discussion of this provided by Matthew
Brett that may be of interest at
http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/Imaging/mnispace.html.
Hope this helps, or that the normalisation experts provide a more detailed
response...
Best wishes,
Geraint
