UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
PHYSICAL AND THEORETICAL CHEMISTRY LABORATORY
LEVERHULME FELLOWSHIP IN BIOPHYSICAL CHEMISTRY
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research fellowship funded by
the Leverhulme Trust, to work in Professor J P Simons' research group,
beginning June 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The group are pursuing a
wide-ranging study (also supported by EPSRC, GlaxoWellcome and the Ramsay
Trust) of conformational molecular structure and supramolecular interactions in
small biomolecular systems isolated in a jet-cooled gas phase environment.
Research strategies include the use of laser-based spectroscopic methods in the
u.v., visible and mid infra-red coupled with high level ab initio computation.
These are reinforced by active collaborations with other groups in the UK (Dr R
T Kroemer at QMW College, and Prof G E Tranter at Imperial College, London),
the USA (Prof D W Pratt at Pittsburgh) and France (Dr M Mons and Dr I Dimicoli
at Saclay). Recent publications can be found in J Phys Chem A, J Amer Chem Soc,
Chem Phys Letters and PhysChemComm.
Applicants should have a Ph.D., with experience in the application of
tunable laser techniques in spectroscopy, and of computational methods in
chemistry. The appointment can be made at a salary within the RA1A grade,
currently £16,286 - £24,479 p.a.
Applicants should send a CV with the names/e-mail addresses of two
referees to Prof J P Simons FRS, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory,
South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QZ, UK. Fax (0)1865 275410 as soon as possible.
