EU SPHERS - Postdoctoral and predoctoral opportunities
A number of postdoctoral and predoctoral positions are available
within the research training network
SPHERS (2000-2003)
"Spectroscopy of Highly Excited Rovibrational States"
funded by the European Commission in the framework of the research
and technological development programme "Improving the Human Research
Potential and the Socio-economic Knowledge Base" (Fifth Framework
Programme of the European Union).
Up-to-date information about the state of the network is available
at http://www.chem.uni-wuppertal.de/sphers/
The network is aimed at investigating, both by experimental spectroscopic
methods and theoretically, highly excited rovibrational states of selected,
prototypal molecules. These studies will serve to characterize accurately
the molecular potential energy functions at energies in, or at least close
to, the chemically significant region.
SPHERS will cover following fields of research
1) The synthesis of reactive molecules.
2) Experimental molecular spectroscopy with complementary
techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy,
Intra-Cavity Laser Spectroscopy, Cavity-Ring-Down Spectroscopy,
Laser Dispersed Fluorescence, and Infared Laser Assisted
Photofragment Spectroscopy.
3) Ab initio calculations of electronic structure.
4) Simulation of rotation-vibration spectra directly from the
Born-Oppenheimer potential energy function and other electronic
properties.
Under the terms of the programme, the young researchers who are successful
applicants for the supported positions must be aged 35 years or less, and
must be nationals of a Community Member State or a State associated with
the EC programme (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Cyprus,
Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania,
Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia). Subject to its final
conclusion, an Association Agreement signed with the Swiss Confederation
is expected to enter into force on 01.01.2001. The young researchers must
not be nationals of the state in which the participant appointing them
is established, and must not have carried out their normal activities in
that state for more than 12 of the 24 months prior to their appointment.
Enquiries should be addressed directly to one of the group leaders of
the network:
