I am doctorate in Physics (from Bombay, India) with postdoctoral
research experience in photochemistry and photophysics of aminocoumarins,
polymers and natural light harvesting systems using both steady state and
time resolved absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. I also have research
experience in fluorescence probe studies of polymers, micelles and reversed
micelles, and inorganic surfaces. I am at present working as a postdoctoral
research
associate at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Connecticut.
This position is

DOCTORAL DISSERTATION
Doctoral Dissertation on spectroscopic analysis and structural elucidation
of new prospective laser dyes (from August 1986 to January 1991). As a
Ph.D. program carried out steady state and time resolved spectroscopic
analysis of new dyes with a view to evaluating their potential as laser
dyes and to study their structure-property relationship.
PRESENT EMPLOYMENT
Post doctoral research associate in the department of chemistry, university
of Connecticut at Storrs, Connecticut (since February 1999).

Polytechnic Institute,

INDUSTRIAL
Colour Analysis Scientist (from April 1991 to August 1993) at Bhor
Industries, Mumbai - Bhor Industries is a leading polymer processing
company in India manufacturing PVC and PU based leather cloth, adhesive
tapes, flooring materials. I was responsible for the spectroscopic analysis
of dyes and pigments using computer colour matching spectrometer. Other
responsibilities included product development.
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
NOVEMBER 1993 - OCTOBER 1995:
Institute for Physical Chemistry, University of Vienna, Austria. Carried
out research on excitation energy transfer in photon harvesting antenna
polymer systems using time correlated single photon counting and
steady-state fluorescence depolarisation techniques.
MARCH 1996 - JANUARY 1998
Department of physical chemistry, university of Umeå, Sweden. I have worked
on excitation energy
transfer in light harvesting complexes-II of photosystem II from higher
plants and bacteria - both
theoretical (simulation) and experimental (steady state and femto second
time resolved spectroscopy).
FEBRUARY 1998 - JANUARY 1999
Centro de Quimica Estrutural, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, Portugal.
I have investigated the
photophysical properties of aminocoumarins in heterogenous systems such as
micelles and reversed
micelles. Primarily steady-state and time resolved (ns) fluorescence
spectroscopic techniques were
employed in the study.

Photobiophysics laboratory of physics department - section Lade, Norwegian
University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. Co-worked along

in isolated light harvesting complexes (LHC II) associated with PS II of
higher plants.

A)Actively collaborated with Profs. K. Razi Naqvi and T.B. Melo in the
development of the following new techniques:
1. Corrections against scattering and sieving in absorption spectrum of
photosynthetic systems (publication # 13).
2. Determination of the concentration of chlorophylls and carotenoids in
LHC II associated with higher plants and algae using Spectral
Reconstruction (SRC) Method (publication # 12).
B)Using the above SRC method, have shown that the light harvesting system
(LH2) of purple bacteria has only ONE and not TWO carotenoids (publication
# 16).
C)Importance of molecular size of dyes (aminocoumarins) in sensing/probing the
microheterogeneous environment in aqueous and nonaqiueous reversed micelles
(publications # 18,20,22).
D) Review article on the intramolecular charge transfer characteristics of
aminocoumarins (publication # 26).
E) Excited state intramolecular charge transfer in carotenoids that have a
lactone ring in the pi-conjugation and its influence on the excited state
properties of such carotenoids (publication # 21).
