A SEDA/CONSORTIUM SEMINAR
WORKING WITH COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - THE EDUCATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE
Friday 19th May, 2000
Seminar coordinators: Bob Hunter, Project Director of the Extended Learning
Environment Network, University of Lincolnshire and Humberside; and James
Wisdom (Higher Education consultant)
This is a seminar particularly for colleagues in educational and staff
development units who are having to manage the integration of new
developments in C&IT into the practices of their institutions.
There is a lot of apparent activity around educational C&IT at the moment -
it has a high news profile, conferences and publications abound, products
are emerging, projects are reporting, specialised jobs are appearing - but
it is important to keep the educational focus. Are we taking the student
voice for granted, or has good feedback and evaluation given us useful
information? Is the enthusiasm of the pathfinders obscuring the costs and
work involved? When a development is handed on to the rest of the
Departmental staff, does it keep its buzz? How is the quality / efficiency
discussion really working out?
To help us consider some of these questions we have invited Bob Hunter to
join us from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside. He is the
Project Director for ELEN, a TLTP3 project, which is working across a
number of universities to integrate on-line key sills and subject resource
materials into mainstream teaching. The project is using Lincolnshire and
Humberside's established web-based integrated learner management system
called The Virtual Campus. Using a case-study approach and the evaluation
evidence we will look at the experiences of both Lincoln shire and
Humberside and the ELEN project to direct us to the key educational
development issues which are emerging.
These Consortium Seminars are open and interactive and we welcome
contributions from participants. We are particularly interested in
evaluation and feedback evidence from both students and staff which can
assist educational developers in planning their strategies.
The seminar will be held in Room 411 in the Management Block, Marylebone
Campus, University of Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road, NW1 5LS (nearest
tube station: Baker Street).
Timetable: Buffet Lunch 12.30 - 2.00 in Room 315, Management Block
