Road roughness subject.
>From a truck manufacturers point of view we can only confirm the comments
of Steve Karamihas of UMTRI. The "singular events" cannot be neglected.
A single lane pothole takes it toll on the fatigue life of e.g. the steering
system.
A double lane expansion joint as on concrete highways or bridges may be felt
very uncomfortable by the driver depending on the design of the suspension.
A modern highway, not properly maintained due to lack of funding, seems to
have a worn surface that is "not gaussian", at least to my eye.
Roads to e.g. construction sites seem to generate either wash-board patterns
or, if the ground is very soft (and wet) sinusoidal patterns where
left-right lanes
are out of phase.
