>This visiting Professorship is an endowed position made possible by a
>significant gift by Mr. J.S. Braun and the various Braun corporate entities
>known as the Braun Intertec. This private gift was matched by Permanent
>University Fund moneys to create the endowment.

>The purpose of the J.S. Braun/Braun Intertec Professorship in Science and
>Technology is to attract outstanding visitors to the Institute of
>Technology to address educational, research, and policy issues at the
>university and within the professional community related to geotechnical,
>hydrogeological, construction materials, pavement and environmental
>engineering.

>A search for the holder of this Professorship is currently underway, with
>the expectation of an appointment being made during the year
>2001-2002. The potential area of interest for 2001-2002 is one of the
>following: innovative construction materials and systems, environmental
>remediation technology, systems analysis and infrastructure management,
>geosynthetics and reinforced earth, stochastic approaches to environmental
>systems, and non-destructive testing techniques. The high social-technical
>priority of these areas, the significant engineering and technical problems
>they imply give particular significance to this Visiting Professorship,
