RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
Spring 2000
Two to three Research Fellowships in the area of pavement materials are
available at the University of Maryland, Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering starting Fall 2000. Faculty has been
significantly active over the years in the pavement research area
focusing in characterization and testing of pavement materials and the
development of pavement design and analysis methods. Recent, funding in
the area of High Performance Concrete Pavements for highways and
airfield runways further expands the breadth of the pavement materials
research of the program. Candidates with previous experience in concrete
and/or other pavement materials are preferred. The fellowships include
salary and tuition and will be assigned based on qualifications.

Established in 1908, the Department, composed of about 30 faculty, is
actively involved in education and research programs covering a broad
spectrum of activities in Civil Engineering. Graduate enrollment in the
Department of Civil Engineering is around 225, with approximately 20%
women, 15% members of minority groups and 40% international students.
The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art computer and laboratory
facilities. Currently a major renovation is undertaken for lab
facilities and equipment related to the Geotechnical /Pavement program.
