Maggie's post certainly rings bells in all kinds of ways. The 'corporate'
way of doing things is creeping in everywhere. e.g. Australian museums being
required to place a monetary value on their collections for purposes of
'public reporting', and in this country the RAE, TQA, etc. etc.
It is called (among other things such as 'value for money', 'best practice',
and 'modernisation' ) 'the audit society' per Power, M. 1997 "The Audit
