The following is an electronic version of the printed application
forms for Institute of Physics grants. Please note that we must
receive printed application forms. We require a signed and dated
application and so cannot accept applications electronically

Grants for National Science Week 2001

Create a big bang in 2001! The Institute of Physics is offering small
grants to help fund physics-based events. Any type of physics-based
activity is eligible, for example lecture demonstrations, interactive
science days and science theatre performances. The grant scheme will
primarily support events planned for National Science Week, 15-25
March 2001. However applications will be accepted for events that are
planned to take place at other times in 2001.

Amount of grant awarded
Grants awarded will normally be no more than £500.

Deadline for applications
Grant forms should be returned by 30 November 2000.
Decisions will be made and grants issued at the beginning of January 2001.

Please return the form to:
Ms Shuk Kwan Liu, Public Affairs Department, Institute of Physics,
76 Portland Place, London, W1B 1NT
Tel: 020 7470 4800
Fax: 020 7470 4848
Email: [log in to unmask]

WE MUST RECEIVE A PRINTED APPLICATION. Electronic applications CANNOT
be accepted.

Support for National Science Week 2001
The Institute of Physics is once again fully supporting the national
week of science, and is actively encouraging its members and others
to communicate exciting aspects and applications of physics to a
wider audience, beyond the classroom and workplace.

The scheme will primarily support activities to be held in National
Science Week (16-25 March). However grants will also be awarded for
events that are planned to take place at other times in 2001.

Additional Information

1. Completion of forms
Complete the attached grant form fully. Indicate the amount of grant
required, and state the purpose for which the money will be used e.g.
hire of equipment. Incomplete forms will NOT be considered. DO NOT
attach any supplementary material with this application, except
sheets for continuation purposes.

2. Priority of grants
Any type of physics-based event is eligible for a grant. Priority of
grants will be given to members, schools, companies and others
affiliated to the Institute, also to events that are aimed at the
general public or mixed audiences, rather than just schoolchildren.
The Institute is keen to develop links with scientific and
non-scientific groups.

3. Previous applicants
Previous recipients of grants are welcome to apply for funding in
2001, but the Institute will look for development of the idea or
activity in the new application.

4. Evaluation and feedback
Feedback forms will be sent to all those that receive grants. Event
evaluation and feedback can be of enormous benefit both to the
organisers and to those who provide support. Please keep in mind the
questions asked in the feedback form whilst planning your event.

5. Recognition of the Institute of Physics funding
Recipients of grants are required to acknowledge the Institute of
Physics sponsorship on all of their promotional leaflets. Please
include copies of promotional material and any press cuttings of your
event with your feedback form.

6. National Science Week 2001 - national programme
If you are planning for your event to be held during National Science
Week 2001 you may wish your event details to be included in the
British Association's national programme. For a programme entry
form, contact the National Science Week Officer, British Association
for the Advancement of Science, 23 Savile Row, London, W1X 2NB.
Tel: 020 7973 3074
Fax: 020 7973 3063
Web-site: www.britassoc.org.uk.

7. Grants will not be awarded:
… To fund the purchase of general purpose hardware, such as digital
cameras and video recording equipment
… To meet staff salaries
… To cover the cost of refreshments provided for the event
… To support projects outside the UK
… To cover administration costs
Please retain this section of the form for information.
