a very neat summary of my ramblings...
I'd agree that the internet isn't the only place to start dialogues between
nonboffins like me and scientists.
Pubs are much more agreeable, and are less of a strain on the eyes.
The bloke I quoted, Chris Locke, puts forward a very convincing argument
for opening up big corporations on the net: I think that scientists have a
lot to learn from it. They make a great case for amateurism and
dilletantism, as you do on your site:
"Amateurs, in particular, are essential ambassadors for the world of
science who freely give their services because science is important to our
lives and part of our culture. "
