the understanding of Lacanian concepts can't be given to you in a single
sentence, it requires study -- and experience. as regards your question,
Lacan doesn't claim scientific status for the mirror stage -- in fact, he
doesn't claim scientific status for analysis at all -- what he does say is
that it could become one. if you recall, the issue was not whether
psychoanalysis has attained the level of science, but whether or not Lacan
(or Kristeva or Freud) is a pseudo-scientist. I argue that he is not.
