While on the subject of this fascinating symbol, does anyone know whether
its similarity to the board used for what we call noughts-and-crosses, and
Americans I think call tic-tac-toe, is a coincidence? Might the game
represent a sort of rustic streetfighting, with the winner gaining control
of the village?
I've got to spend less time on this list. It's doing strange things to my
brain.
