Dear Jon and Ioanna,
While I understand your reservations, I read Sonia Lipenolch's
post as an attempt to inject humour into a list that, at the time,
was getting heated about mysogyny and suicide. At the time,
I described it as 'gentle humour' and 'welcome'. It led to some
lighthearted exchanges about cousins.
Yes you can read it the way you seem to, but it was a joke about
childhood for mine. Funnily enough, my sister once concussed me
by throwing a cricket ball into the back of my head at close range
when about 13 years old, now in her late 30s she has a very responsible
position in my state's public service, and her area of responsibility is
mental health.
You've misread the import of an un-PC joking posting... Maybe have
a look at the postings around that time, I immediately understood Sonia
as attempting to lighten things up and introduce un-PC childhood anecdotes
as did Joe Duemer who responded in a lighthearted fashion.
best
Hugh Tolhurst
PS I find myself in full agreement with Susanne.
