I don't think a poem "should" or "should not" do anything.
JUST KIDDING!!
Actually I'm behind Fred 100% in his appraisal of Narcissism in
contemporary verse. A small sampling of Fred's enormous output appeared
in the print issue of FlashPoint, right along with the first of my
diatribes on Narcissism in contemporary poetry, The Trouble With
Mediocrity. The current issue of FlashPoint contains the third
installment, The Yoke of Human Blindness: The Neo-Georgians, William S.
Cohen and the Apache Attack Helicoptor of the Self. Once I was asked by
a member of the Buffalo list why these pieces struck such a 'vociferous'
tone. I told him for the same reason contemporary poetry is so
Narcissistic. The hits go up. Carlo Parcelli --
