Neither is it irrelevant to the situation of women. There are refuges of
various sorts for women within the boundaries of existing nation states, and
it is understood - by a few people, anyway - that their existence makes the
lives of women in those countries safer (it is easier to leave an abusive
partner, for instance, if doing so does not make you homeless, if you have
somewhere else to go).
And I'd just like to note that Black Pepper has a first ever non-fiction
title
scheduled for publication, it's a history of one of the first such 'refuges
of
various sorts for women' in Melbourne, Australia - the Marjorie Oke Rooming
House for Women. Am unsure as to author, but its a 2001 publication. Black
Pepper publisher Gail Hannah is a current Marjorie Oke committee member.
