I've just read the Plath posts and am thinking that for a poet it's quite a
feat to be still a topic of discussion -- literary or otherwise -- after 40
years (Oscar Wilde said something like the only thing worse than being
talked about is not being talked about). Don't know what irritates people
most as it seems that PC language had/has no impact whatsoever on
discussing her being an intellectual, cheek-biting female, American, Ted's
partner or anything. In spite of her 'self-aggrandising romanticising
neuroses' poets still feel like expressing themselves in Plathitudes every
now and then. I myself don't do exceptionally well whenever I watch the
footy Crows as my poor heart leaps between 'Go Crows' and a 'Crow's Song
of Himself'.
