I've been thinking all day about the comment (forgive misparaphrase) by of
all things a citizen of Drogheda that Cromwell's conduct of war was normal
for its time. For the historically deprived, as I remember Cromwell had the
entire population of Drogheda slaughtered because the town resisited his
entry.
So how will Hitler be viewed in 350 years? Stalin, Idi Amin, Franco,
Tudjman, the boy soldiers in Sierra Leone, the US slaughter of 3 million
Vietnamese, Pol Pot, the Indo-Pakistani partition riots--add your own to
the list. Hitler's conduct was normal for its time.
