Dear Erminia, if you are still around - my condolences on your heavy loss -
most contributors to this list will in fact know Cavalcanti's _Donna mi
prega_ pretty well from Ezra Pound's _Literary Essays_ and his Canto xxxvi
(?); the phrase "dove sta memoria" must abide in the memory of all who have
read the _Cantos_ , I happen to have planned a long words and music collage
(on tape) with this title, having covered the subjects of _Time_, _Moon_,
_Paradise_ and so on previously (it's a hobby of mine), though I can't carry
it out till I return to Frankfurt where the majority of the sound-sources
and apparatus are. I hope you read this mail eventually because I have a
question (or 2): can one get a recording of the Cavalcanti poem in Italy
and, more difficult, is there available in Italy the recording of Ungaretti
reading his own poem "Finale" (in England he read it at some big Poetry
International or something, I heard it on the defunct 3rd Programme several
times back in the sixties) - a reading which blew me away and remains
forever etched in my memory but which I would nevertheless like to have a)
as a memento b) to use on a tape on the subject of _The Sea_ ("il mare",
read in a haunted ground-swelling susurrus)?
Cheers, Martin
