I decided I would reply. If I'm honest, I'd have to say flattery played
a part in the decision. It's pleasing to know that someone likes my
poetry sufficiently to want to write an essay on it, so I'm inclined to
be well-disposed to such a person. Had the request been less pleasantly
worded, I think I would have been more inclined to ignore it. Or have
some fun, if I were in a particularly wicked mood!
***I'd be so inclined myself. Admirers are sometimes hard to come by. But
be careful.... Did you happen to see some old Rodney Dangerfield movie
(where Rodney was a student) and he got Kurt Vonnegut to help him with an
essay on Vonnegut's work? The teacher gave the essay a low grade finally,
claiming the student knew nothing about interpretingVonnegut's work.
Good luck with it, Peter. It will be fun seeing the results too. I hope
you keep us posted on that. (Just can't for the life of me remember the
name of that movie... but maybe Peter will end up making a new one.)
