I really like my Uni of California copy of
Olson's The Maximus Poems. The descriptions
of fishing fleets in storms are the highlight of the
work for me. It's a book I came to after reading
all of Pound in 1990/1991 and it didn't seem
that expensive for what it is... Though I seem to
recall I was employed by MUP pricing textbooks
with a pricing gun, so probably got 20 or 30 % off
retail.
And I love the picture of Charles O. enjoying a morning
cigarette on the foreshore which adorns the cover of
my telephone book sized paperback.
"Maximus, to himself
I have to learn the simplest things
last, Which made for difficulties.
Even at sea I was slow, to get the hand out, or to cross
a wet deck."
Ah, what's oblique about that?
