I've always found it impossible to hierarchalise poems. They seem so often to
have 'moments' of connection, moments which soon move on as ones experience
moves on. Nothing fixed.
As for Shakespeare, well, I find little to nothing in his work which speaks
to me and to suggest that he 'says it all' seems to imply a kind of
imperialism. How could he 'say it all ' when what he lived is so vastly
different to what I'm / you are living now?
When asked to suggest some poetry as an introduction it's sources of poetry
rather than specific poems / poets that matters. Perhaps.
