Viv and Douglas - yes, DH's poetry is a favourite of mine. Each year I do a
lecture at UWA (School of Labour Relations & Something) and I use his great
poems about work and against machines. I also love his whales humping in
the deeps poem. Plus the classics of observation (like Rilke's Panther):
Kangaroo, Snake, Mosquito ... and later Bavarian Gentians. I could go on ...
For a highlight in his prose, read Mornings in Mexico. There are incredible
passages in that about the Indian males dancing that spell of sweat and are
ecstatic with rhythm.
I picked up his Selected Poems t'other day in the throwaway bin at St
Vincent de Paul! I'll pass it on to the next worthwhile student.
Enuff. Back to comparing Saussure's theories with Barthes - essay for the
end of Eatser - so that I can be a worthwhile student. (This is my poet's
madness showing in a different disguise.)
Happy Easter to all. May all your risings be happy ones.
