Great list, Hugh.
How about the contents of the definitive anthology for such a 'student'? It
must have been attempted, like the old 'Jazz for People Who Hate Jazz' and
such like. Let's give it a limit of twenty poems and attempt a (imaginary)
PoetryEtc Website anthology. Bit of Catullus, Chaucer, maybe Beowulf
(selection), Shakespeare, Donne, Basho, Issa, Rimbaud, Yeats, Eliot, Pound,
WCWilliams, Frost, Dylan Thomas, Lowell, Bishop, O'Hara, Koch, (James)
Tate, Peter Porter, Bob Dylan ... Ahh, it gets too hard to exclude, not
include! A guest appearance by Anon wouldn't go astray ...
Any other selection suggestions?
