re Kari's comment - it's true that most ciggie cards
were as you say, like playing cards. These aren't,
they are the size of playing cards but they open like
greeting cards to reveal, on the right, a picture of a
flower woven or embroidered on to silk-like material,
and on the left an account of its history, folklore,
uses in medicine etc. (They are seriously lovely and
must have cost something to produce, no doubt all made
back from the mugs who bought the cancer sticks.)
I am conscious that most folk won't "see" ciggie cards
that way, which was why I felt a need to describe
them.
I agree it's still a problem; I'm not happy either
about that or the end. I'm thinking of altering the
line order to embed the quote a bit more, viz:
Here's a pretty one.
Nicotiana, widely held sacred
and credited with great healing powers.
Its white stars stand for contentment.
That might help a bit, but it still isn't a total answer.
