Good on Paul Muldoon for giving permission to post his poem to the list. It
bespeaks a very cheering attitude. And thanks to Candice and Peter H. for
their illuminating discussion of same. More, more!
I don't think that the title, Holy Thursday, should be considered obscure,
and no dig at anyone intended here. I have a very lightweight dictionary
which instantly gives: _The last Thursday before Easter, commemorates the
Last Supper, synonym Maundy Thursday._ So, this raises the question, why is
there such resistance out there (again, not aiming this at the initiator of
this interesting thread, Matthew I think?) to looking up words in
dictionaries? I've seen poets like Bernstein denounced for "obscurities"
which are in my thirteen year old's school dictionary.
PS I thought the romance/religion connection banal in ways, but Peter's
opening up the identity of the couple invigorating.
