Erminia - you didn't hurt me, and I wasn't cross. It's just that there's
nothing abstract about these choices. And of course, at heart I agree
with what you say: have passionately said similar things myself: but the
buts are very buttish.
Much of what calls itself the "arts industry" depends on unacknowledged
economic subsidising by artists themselves. In much the same way that
capitalist economies would crash without the unacknowledged economic
input of those who raise children, keep house, &c. (Usually, but not
always, women). If my poetry wanders into that economic world, as I
said, I want my cut. In the real world of poetry, I have no idea about
money: to think about poetry in terms of solely economic transactions
makes no sense at all.
