David Kennedy and The Cherry On The Top Press are pleased to announce the
publication of A Walk Toward Spicer by Stephen Vincent.
_This last weekend I was on a walk (here in San Francisco) with friends that
started at Fog City Diner on the Embarcardero side of Telegraph Hill..._
A Walk Toward Spicer literally follows in the late Jack Spicer's footsteps
as Stephen Vincent takes a walk through North Beach to Aquatic Park where
Spicer would meet with friends or sit to listen in solitude to the Giants
baseball game on his transistor radio. Aquatic Park becomes _one of those
places - an urban version of a sacred grove - where power gathers and takes
focus. A place to be open, to take in 'the dictation', those forces from the
outside that could invade the poet's body from anywhere, anytime._
Vincent and his friends meet a man balancing stones on the beach. _'This is
a gift...I've been given this gift. It takes patience...' He sweeps his arm
out towards the Bay, the islands and Mount Tamalpais. 'This is a powerful
place. All that energy comes right to here. To find the balance I just have
to be patient. I had to learn patience._
A Walk Toward Spicer is a powerful meditation on the dynamics of creation
and is essential reading for anyone interested in how poetry is made and in
a poet whose presence in contemporary poetry grows stronger with every
passing year.
A Walk Toward Spicer will be published in a limited edition of 150 copies at
the end of October. It costs 3.50 pounds sterling or 8 dollars US and both
these prices include postage. To secure your copy, send a cheque made
payable to 'D G Kennedy' to:
