The excerpt posted from
Alison's _Navigatio_ made me want to read the rest of it
& Navigatio by Alison Croggan is a good read, it was
described as 'a long prose poem' by Robert Grey and
is published ($15-95 AU I think) by Black Pepper,
403 St Georges Road, North Fitzroy, Australia, 3068.
Further to Candice's comments, sports writing is an art,
sport is a large subject in Australian poetry and elsewhere -
did not Kenneth Koch write an epic poem about a
Japanese Baseball team? So many Australian metaphors
evolve from sporting phrases, a little football is ineivitable
when discussing poetry with Australians. My first sporting
contribution to poetryetc was an elegy for an outstanding
schoolboy footballer (posted May 21st).
When I can find the typescript, I will kick off the Olympic Poems
with a satire on the Olympic Literary Criticism events - people
are free to define Olympic with great breadth.
