"Aren't the majority of sad suicides the consequences of this inflexible
confrontation which our supposed free conscience
(which is on the contrary deeply controlled and
manipulated from the above) makes on a daily base with the tyrannical
"ideals" set for our torment and damnation
by society and civilization?"
Possibly, although I think that Lewis Wolpert's definition of depression as
"malignant sadness" may be relevant here: the self-judgement of the suicide
is a judgement which has got out of hand. It's also the case that conscience
occasionally impels people to stop doing beastly things and start doing
decent ones. It's the only thing besides brute force which is capable of
having this effect. And conscience may not be free a priori, but it can
labour to free itself. No state, society or civilisation has ever been able
to overdetermine or exhaustively pre-empt its demands.
